Ann and David Clapper stand by the tree they were married under 30 years ago. They were married on December 22, 1969 — in a raging snowstorm. Fifty guests had been invited to attend, but only 25 braved the cold and the snow to witness the ceremony performed by Rev. Ray L. Donahue and Rev. Alan Wirth. Red ribbons were tied on the wedding rings so they wouldn't be lost in the snow! Ann and David had planned to be married at the site of the former Catskill Mountain House. High winds and blowing snow changed their minds and the wedding was held just outside the old stone gate posts under a white pine tree with a DEC Trail Marker on it. The tree and the Trail Marker were still in place on Dec. 22, 1999 when they revisited the "Scene."
